Sebastien Merone – Work Experience
As part of the SCAPE framework requirements for the A9/A85 Perth Transport Futures Project, Balfour Beatty, in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council are required to demonstrate a commitment to employment opportunities and skills development throughout the duration of the contract.
Bridges to Schools 2018 – Kinross
Marking the confluence of British Science Week, the Year of the Young Person and the 200th Anniversary of the ICE, Perth and Kinross Council and Balfour Beatty ran the very successful ‘Bridges to School’ event at Kinross Primary and Kinross High.
Promoting Modern Apprenticeships with DYW at Morrison Academy, Crieff
Resident ‘celebrity’ apprentice, Bethany Welsh, represented Balfour Beatty and the Perth Transport Futures Project (PTFP) by assisting Developing the Young Workforce Manager, Fiona Reith, at a parents evening at Morrison’s Academy in Crieff.
DEC! Perth Academy – Surveying Lesson
Balfour Beatty has sponsored local high school, Perth Academy to fund the delivery of the ambitious Design, Engineer, Construct! Programme (DEC!), an accredited learning programme for secondary-school age students and has been expertly developed to create and inspire the next generation of Built Environment professionals.
DEC! – Deputy First Ministers Visit
Balfour Beatty’s support of the DEC! programme caught the eye of Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney MSP, and he paid the school a visit on the 16th March to meet the pupils and learn more about the class.
Developing the Young Workforce – Promoting Modern Apprenticeships
Continuing our close relationship with the Developing the Young Workforce team in Perth and Kinross, we worked with Donna Kudarenko, Employer Engagement Advisor, to produce a short video to promote modern apprenticeships.

Ken Brown, Project Manager at the Perth Transport Futures Project, has been mentoring a group of Napier University students through their final year project – to promote a fictitious development in Edinburgh.

As part of Balfour Beatty’s commitment to engaging with and inspiring the next generation of construction professionals, Community Benefits Advisor, Duncan Gardner, attended Perth Grammar’s Careers Fair to talk about careers in Construction with Balfour Beatty.
Schools and Clubs Engagement – Bridges to Schools
Balfour Beatty and Perth and Kinross Council brought the ICE’s cable bridge kit to St Johns RC Academy in Perth to deliver a series of bridge building workshops to local school pupils.

Greg Cheyne, Senior Structures Site Engineer with the Balfour Beatty Team at the Perth Transport Futures Project, went out to deliver a STEM presentation and workshop with local pupils at Tulloch Primary School as part of our ongoing programme of curriculum support.
