Project Update | January 2025
Project Update from Derek Walsh

Derek Walsh, Contracts Manager for BAM UK & Ireland, commented, "Since the completion of the main deck construction of the Destiny Bridge in September 2024, our focus has turned to the finishing works on the structure. This included the precast fascia panel installation, deck drainage units and steel safety parapets. Works have also continued on the residual groundworks, surfacing, and finishes on both the A9 and the New Kingsway which are close to completion.”
Jillian Ferguson, Roads & Infrastructure Manager, commented, “As we approach the end of January, I am pleased to confirm that the Destiny Bridge finishing works are well advanced. Steady progression on the final finishes have been made across both the A9 and New Kingsway and we are in a strong position at this stage on the project.
"I can also confirm that we are on target for project completion in Spring 2025."
Destiny Bridge
Since the connection of the main bridge deck in September 2024, the bridge deck waterproofing and protection layer works have been completed, including the installation of precast fascia panels parapet upstand beams.
The safety parapet, bridge deck drainage units, deck pavement and raised verge concrete works have since been completed. Western approach concrete slabs on top of the reinforced earth structure are also complete which facilitates the connection between the A9 eastern roundabout and Destiny bridge. The remaining finishing touches will be completed in the coming weeks.
New Kingsway
Miscellaneous finishing works have continued, including completing the surfacing to footpaths and carriageways, and drainage and ducting snagging works. The remaining landscaping has advanced well in the period and will be completed in time for opening.
A9
The new A9 alignment is fully established and working well for drivers, and ancillary works such as bus-bays, footpaths, and accommodation works are all complete.
Works on the old A9 are now well advanced, and the new realigned cycleway was opened to the public in November 2024.
Elsewhere the pavement works between the eastern roundabout of the A9 junction to the Destiny Bridge has progressed positively in the period. As with the New Kingsway, landscaping has also advanced in recent weeks.
