The team behind the Cross Tay Link Road project has created a new access ramp at Scone’s Robert Douglas Memorial Institute (RDMI) as part of their community benefits programme of works.

Main contractor, BAM UK & Ireland, along with sub-contractor, Alter Fencing, donated over 100 labour hours, and all materials necessary to provide RDMI with a DDA compliant ramp and handrail, and a new fence to the rear of the property. They also assisted with
the planning application process to enable the ramp construction.

Lewis Simpson, Vice Chairman of the Douglas Foundation, commented, “We have been restricted in terms of access for some time now, and as a result, one of our halls, and some events have not been made available to all members of our community.

“This new ramp and handrail, and improved path, has made such a difference, and the new fence and gate will also benefit the occupants of the cottage at the rear of the Institute. The Foundation and Management Committee would like to thank the CTLR project for their kind donation.”

Derek Walsh, Contracts Manager for BAM UK & Ireland, commented, “We’re delighted to have helped with such a worthwhile project that will make a real difference to the people of Scone.

“Ensuring we deliver on community benefits is an integral part of the work we’re doing on the Cross Tay Link Road project. From donations of goods and services to organising and assisting with volunteers and hands-on help, the goal is to leave a positive and lasting impact throughout the life of the project, and beyond.”

Jillian Ferguson, Roads Infrastructure Manager commented, "We are determined to help and support more vulnerable members of our communities through charitable work and donations, and to build upon the project ethos by aiding projects focused on improving public spaces and delivering environmental gains. The reach, by its nature, is wide and inclusive."
