Blairgowrie Ramblers Association First To Walk Green Bridge
The Cross Tay Link Road project recently welcomed 15 members of the Blairgowrie Ramblers Association for a presentation and site tour.
Patricia Hamilton from the Blairgowrie Ramblers Association commented, “As Blairgowrie locals we are all very excited about Destiny Bridge and the travel and accessibility benefits it will bring to the Eastern Perthshire communities - and as ramblers we are particularly interested in the improvements being carried out around the local path networks.”
The team at CTLR gave a short presentation on the project, highlighting the new Active Travel Paths Network and the central Park-And-Choose hub which will allow motorists to park just out of town and switch to foot, bike or wheelchair.
Located at the old A9 site, this hub will include a picnic area with wheelchair accessible benches, car parking, cycle shelters and EV charging points.
The Blairgowrie Ramblers then became the first walking group to enjoy a stroll over the Green Bridge at Highfield, where they discussed construction and travel networks, and spent some time enjoying the view.
Patricia Hamilton continued, ““We’re always looking for new route combinations we can add to our bank of local walks and so on behalf of us Ramblers, I would like to thank Amanda and Ronnie of BAM UK & Ireland for an interesting presentation. It was great to see the Green Bridge for real, and we are already thinking of how we can integrate the lovely, updated path extensions into future walks this Spring.”
Jillian Ferguson, Roads Infrastructure Manager for Perth & Kinross Council commented, “We were delighted to welcome the Blairgowrie Ramblers to the site; I’m really pleased to see local groups so excited for the opening of the Active Travel Network in Spring next year.
“It is our aim to open the Green Bridge before the end of November which will ensure connectivity across Highfield Woods. This particular feature of the project has generated much in the way of interest; as well as providing a thoroughfare for local wildlife, the stunning viewpoint complete with Living Bench is sure to provide endless enjoyment – and the perfect selfie spot – for walkers and cyclists.”
